Derek Carr decides to retire from the NFL
Shoulder injury Derek Carr has announced his retirement. In late March, while ramping up his preparation for the 2025 season, Derek experienced pain in his right shoulder. Eventually, medical scans determined objectively that Derek sustained a labral tear and also had significant degenerative changes to his rotator cuff. Upon consultation with his wife, Heather, Derek has decided it is in the best interests of both his family and the Saints organization to retire from the National Football League. (New Orleans Saints on X) FF Today's Take: Carr (34) was more than likely going to miss the 2025 season if he decided on surgery to fix his shoulder. Instead, he decides to call it a career and pass the torch to Spencer Rattler, Jake Haener or rookie Tyler Shough to lead the Saints at quarterback. Haener and Rattler didn't exactly light the world on fire last season, both completed well below 60 percent of their passes. Expect Shough to have a good shot a starting Week 1.
