Thursday Night Football: Atlanta Falcons @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Thursday, 8:15 p.m. ET | Projected Totals: Falcons 19.75, Buccaneers 24.25

Interesting Players

Kyle Pitts (TE, ATL) | My Rank: TE3, Consensus Rank: TE5

It’s difficult to overstate how good Kyle Pitts’ usage has been when Drake London is sidelined this season. In four weeks without London (Week 8 and the last three weeks), he has averaged a 27% target share and a 31% air yards share on an 88% route participation rate. All three of those numbers would lead the entire TE position for the season. With London out again for TNF, Pitts arguably deserves to be even higher than third among TEs.

Emeka Egbuka (WR, TB) | My Rank: WR22, Consensus Rank: WR27

Speaking of players with elite usage, we have Emeka Egbuka. I have fully flipped my stance on Egbuka as the season has gone on. Early in the year, I was skeptical of the rookie, as his usage didn’t match his red-hot start.

Now, we are in the opposite situation. Egbuka is seeing genuinely elite usage, but the results haven’t been there. He has averaged a whopping 31% target share and a 47% air yards share since Week 8 … to go with just 7.6 half-PPR points per game. Just like it eventually did when he was outperforming his usage early in the year, I expect Egbuka’s efficiency to regress back toward league average, which is why I’m higher than consensus on him right now.

Cleveland Browns @ Chicago Bears

Sunday, 1:00 p.m. ET | Projected Totals: Browns 15.50, Bears 23.00

Olamide Zaccheaus (WR, CHI) | My Rank: WR62, Consensus Rank: WR99

Interesting Players

This massive difference is mostly because I am currently assuming Rome Odunze will miss this week with a foot injury (he is listed as questionable). I’m also much higher on both DJ Moore and Luther Burden than the current BluePrint consensus, almost certainly for the same reason.

However, the gap for Zaccheaus is larger than the gap for the other two receivers. Even though he had been reduced to a non-factor in the Bears’ offense over the previous three weeks, Zaccheaus rocketed back up to a 72% route participation rate with Odunze sidelined last week (Moore was at 82% and Burden was all the way down at 64%). He’s not exciting, but the veteran is on the fantasy radar as a desperation streaming option, assuming Oduzne is out.

Kyle Monangai (RB, CHI) | My Rank: RB30, Consensus Rank: RB38

Monangai has actually led the Bears’ backfield in carries in each of the last three weeks, posting RB rush shares of 60%, 55%, and 52%. I still prefer D’Andre Swift, who is still the team’s primary pass-catcher out of the backfield, but the gap is narrowing. The Browns’ run defense is elite, which isn’t great for Monangai, but I trust Ben Johnson to make things work … especially in a game that projects to be absolutely frigid. There should be volume to go around, given that Chicago is massively favored.

Baltimore Ravens @ Cincinnati Bengals

Sunday, 1:00 p.m. ET | Projected Totals: Ravens 27.00, Bengals 24.50

Interesting Players

Isaiah Likely (TE, BAL) | My Rank: TE13, Consensus Rank: TE22

On the one hand, I totally get where the consensus is coming from on this one. It’s hard to project Likely too well when his usage (a 15%ish target share on a 50%ish route participation rate) is so thoroughly mediocre. But the Bengals’ defense is just indescribably bad at defending tight ends. The gap in half-PPR points allowed to the position between them (20.4) and the second-softest defense (13.5) is the same as the gap between that second-ranked defense and the third-toughest defense (6.6).

And the Bengals seem to be particularly fond of giving up big games to backup or committee tight ends, from Pat Freiermuth (25.6 points) to Dawson Knox last week (14.3) to Likely himself in Week 13 (10.0 even with a goal-line fumble). Given that the high-end TE2 options aren’t that inspiring anyway, I’ll take a chance on Likely against this historically weak TE defense. (For what it’s worth, I’m also higher than Mark Andrews on consensus, for similar reasons.)

Joe Burrow (QB, CIN) | My Rank: QB7, Consensus Rank: QB11

Normally, I tend to find myself lower on Burrow than consensus ranks, so this one is a bit surprising. And, to be honest, I don’t feel hugely confident in him this week. In fact, I think this pick is probably more about my lack of confidence in the names the consensus has above him.

The four names in particular that make up this gap are Brock Purdy, Jaxson Dart, Patrick Mahomes, and Marcus Mariota. Purdy in particular I don’t mind having above Burrow at all. But Mahomes has been mediocre for a while now and is in a tougher matchup. Mariota has rushing upside and a good matchup, but at the end of the day, he’s Marcus Mariota. And Dart is much less appealing for fantasy if he’s not getting designed rushing attempts, which he didn’t see a single one of in his first game under Mike Kafka in Week 13. Put it all together, and I view Burrow as more of a mid-range QB1 than a borderline option this week.

Chase Brown (RB, CIN) | My Rank: RB14, Consensus Rank: RB10

Brown’s usage trended back in the right direction last week, as he posted a 67% rush share even with Samaje Perine healthy. But he’s still not the true bell-cow he was in the weeks that Perine was sidelined. I don’t see him racking up 20 carries this week, which is a real possibility for the backs just above him. He’s still a solid high-end RB2, but not a legit RB1.

Arizona Cardinals @ Houston Texans

Sunday, 1:00 p.m. ET | Projected Totals: Cardinals 16.50, Texans 26.00

Interesting Players

Woody Marks (RB, HOU) | My Rank: RB13, Consensus Rank: RB16

Speaking of those backs above Brown who project for better workloads, we have Woody Marks. I’m expecting Nick Chubb to miss this week with a rib injury, which would leave Marks alone with Dare Ogunbowale in the Texans’ backfield.

The rookie has been inefficient this season, but a matchup with Arizona’s defense should help on that front. Even if he remains inefficient, he could legitimately see 30 touches this week in what should be an easy win for Houston.

Jayden Higgins (WR, HOU) | My Rank: WR47, Consensus Rank: WR36

I just can’t get behind ranking Jayden Higgins as more than a boom/bust flex option until he becomes a full-time player. The rookie actually trended in the wrong direction last week with just a 51% route participation rate, a very uninspiring number. Even in a good matchup, that number is low enough to make him a risky option on a mediocre Texans offense.

Michael Wilson (WR, ARI) | My Rank: WR13, Consensus Rank: WR17

Marvin Harrison Jr. is out again this week, so Michael Wilson is a legit must-start. It’s really that simple. I will admit that I’m a little worried that the Cardinals’ garbage-time heavy offense will finally fail to produce against Houston’s elite defense, but Wilson’s usage and production with MHJ out has been too elite to ignore.

New York Jets @ Jacksonville Jaguars

Sunday, 1:00 p.m. ET | Projected Totals: Jets 14.00, Jaguars 27.50

Interesting Players

Travis Etienne (RB, JAC) | My Rank: RB8, Consensus Rank: RB14

I agree with Vegas that this should be a very, very comfortable win for the Jaguars against the Brady Cook-led Jets. We are also coming off a week in which Etienne reasserted himself as the lead back in Jacksonville’s backfield, with 20 carries to just two for Bhayshul Tuten (to be fair, the rookie missed some time being evaluated with a concussion and also fumbled early in the game).

A gap this large does have me second-guessing myself a little, but Etienne’s volume projection is just so tempting in this spot. Even if I move him down a little before lock on Sunday, I’m not dropping him out of the legit RB1 range.

Adonai Mitchell (WR, NYJ) | My Rank: WR36, Consensus Rank: WR44

Just when everyone started to believe in him, Mitchell dropped an absolute dud last week. And it wasn’t at all a coincidence that this happened in the game where Tyrod Taylor suffered an injury and was replaced by Brady Cook, who is starting again this week.

Adding insult to injury, Mitchell also posted just an 18% target share last week, his lowest mark since becoming a Jet. But that points to the larger trend that his overall usage in New York since has been genuinely excellent — I’m willing to trust those numbers for a bounceback, even if it isn’t likely to be pretty pretty.

Los Angeles Chargers @ Kansas City Chiefs

Sunday, 1:00 p.m. ET | Projected Totals: Chargers 17.75, Chiefs 23.25

Interesting Players

Keenan Allen (WR, LAC) | My Rank: WR49, Consensus Rank: WR37

For a stretch in the middle of the season, I was consistently low on Keenan Allen. He had fallen to a part-time player in the Chargers’ offense, with route participation rates as low as 50%. But now those numbers are back up, as he was at 82% and 73% in the last two weeks. Combine that with his solid per-route target-earning all season — his 21% target per route run rate ranks 29th among WRs — and I like the veteran’s chances to provide at least a decent floor in PPR formats.

Buffalo Bills @ New England Patriots

Sunday, 1:00 p.m. ET | Projected Totals: Bills 25.50, Patriots 24.00

Interesting Players

TreVeyon Henderson (RB, NE) | My Rank: RB24, Consensus Rank: RB13

I honestly don’t understand this consensus ranking at all. Are we just ignoring the fact that the last time we saw the Patriots’ offense, TreVeyon Henderson wasn’t their RB1? The rookie trailed Rhamondre Stevenson in snap share (48% to 60%), carries (11 to 12), and routes (15 to 21) in Week 13 before New England’s bye.

Yes, Henderson is explosive, and this is a good matchup. But all 32 teams are active this week; there are too many RBs with better projected volume for me to rank Henderson anywhere near the RB1 range. Correspondingly, I’m also higher on Stevenson than consensus (RB33 vs. RB40).

Stefon Diggs (WR, NE) | My Rank: WR26, Consensus Rank: WR20

This ranking makes more sense to me than the Henderson one. After all, Diggs has been genuinely very impressive this season. He’s the Patriots’ WR1 in a high-total matchup, and the last time we saw him against his old team, he popped off for 146 yards and 10 catches.

But, to be honest, all those factors are the only things keeping me from ranking Diggs even lower. Over the last two weeks (since Kayshon Boutte returned from injury), he has been a part-time player in New England’s offense, with route participation rates of 51% and 56%. It’s borderline impossible to be a consistent fantasy asset with numbers that low — either those numbers trend up, or he’s going to drop a dud or two down the stretch.

Washington Commanders @ New York Giants

Sunday, 1:00 p.m. ET | Projected Totals: Commanders 22.00, Giants 24.50

Interesting Players

Jaxson Dart (QB, NYG) | My Rank: QB10, Consensus Rank: QB4

As mentioned earlier, my big issue with Dart this week is that the Giants seem to have fired Brian Daboll with the express purpose of protecting their rookie quarterback. In games with Daboll calling the shots (including two he exited early due to injuries), Dart averaged 4.6 designed runs per game. In his first game under Mike Kafka in Week 13, he saw zero.

The Giants also had a pass rate a massive 12% below expected in that Week 13 game with Dart under center and Kafka calling plays. Even if they do give him the chance, Dart has not proven thus far that he can be a viable fantasy QB without rushing volume — he scored just 13.6 points in that Week 13 game. The good matchup and his rushing potential keep Dart as a boom/bust QB1, but I certainly don’t view him as an elite option.

Las Vegas Raiders @ Philadelphia Eagles

Sunday, 1:00 p.m. ET | Projected Totals: Raiders 13.25, Eagles 25.25

Interesting Players

Saquon Barkley (RB, PHI) | My Rank: RB5, Consensus Rank: RB9

Do I think Saquon Barkley is still an elite (or even above-average) NFL running back? No. Do I think he’s capable of racking up points if given 20+ carries against this Raiders defense? Yes. The Eagles still clearly want to feed Barkley if they can, and they should have that opportunity this week.

A.J. Brown (WR, PHI) | My Rank: WR7, Consensus Rank: WR10

This may seem slightly contradictory given that I was just proclaiming that I expect a hugely run-heavy approach from the Eagles. But the Raiders are actually very weak against receivers, giving up the fifth-most points per game to the position.

Meanwhile, Brown is seeing genuinely elite usage, with at least an average target share of 33% over the last four weeks. For all the drama, he’s still an explosive playmaker more than capable of putting up numbers on that kind of volume.

Brock Bowers (TE, LV) | My Rank: TE4, Consensus Rank: TE3

To be honest, highlighting Bowers is just an excuse for me to victory-lap having ranked Kyle Pitts as my TE3 for this week — congrats to anyone who started him on winning your first fantasy playoff matchup. For the record, the Eagles’ defense is also very tough on opposing TEs, so this could be a tougher week than usual for Bowers.

Green Bay Packers @ Denver Broncos

Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET | Projected Totals: Packers 22.50, Broncos 20.00

Interesting Players

Christian Watson (WR, GB) | My Rank: WR27, Consensus Rank: WR33

Lowkey, I like the consensus rankings being low on Watson this week. I couldn’t quite get him that low, given how well he has produced recently (and the unappealing nature of the other options in this range). But I’m very worried that a dud is incoming. The Broncos’ defense is obviously elite, and his volume trended in the wrong direction last week with all of Green Bay’s WRs back healthy. With that said, Watson’s upside still has me higher on him than consensus as a boom/bust WR2.

Detroit Lions @ Los Angeles Rams

Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET | Projected Totals: Lions 24.50, Rams 30.50

Interesting Players

Matthew Stafford (QB, LAR) | My Rank: QB3, Consensus Rank: QB9

On the one hand, I did really try to justify ranking Stafford lower — buying in on a pocket-passing QB at what feels like peak value is never something I want to do.

On the other hand, the Rams have a massive 30-point total against the Lions’ banged-up defense. And since they’re using Davante Adams as their goal-line back, Stafford has a ton of TD equity in those 30 points. I could be talked into bumping Stafford down a couple of spots, but he is definitely a top-half QB1 this week.

Kyren Williams (RB, LAR) | My Rank: RB15, Consensus Rank: RB19

Once again, I’m just trusting that juicy 30-point total. The backs I have just below Kyren tend to be on much worse offenses — guys like Quinshon Judkins, Breece Hall, and Ashton Jeanty with team totals literally half of the Rams’. Even with Blake Corum’s role expanding lately, Kyren is still LA’s clear RB1, so I like his chances at a solid day in an environment like this.

Carolina Panthers @ New Orleans Saints

Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET | Projected Totals: Panthers 21.50, Saints 19.00

Interesting Players

Juwan Johnson (TE, NO) | My Rank: TE12, Consensus Rank: TE8

This is one of those cases where, even though I’m a massive 40% lower than consensus on paper, I genuinely don’t feel that strongly about my take. In my eyes, there is a fairly flat tier of tight ends this week that could (with a bit of imagination) stretch all the way from TE7 to TE17.

I’ve got Johnson a bit lower in that tier than I normally would because he posted just a 58% route participation rate last week, but the difference between him and any of the players near him is marginal.

Chris Olave (WR, NO) | My Rank: WR15, Consensus Rank: WR11

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: I don’t feel that strongly about Olave being my WR15, because he is in a large tier of high-end WR2 types (mostly clear WR1s on bad offenses). I’ve got Olave near the end of that tier because the Saints’ offense isn’t hugely inspiring and this matchup is just okay … but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he outperforms at least the next three names directly above him.

Indianapolis Colts @ Seattle Seahawks

Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET | Projected Totals: Colts 14.50, Seahawks 28.00

Interesting Players

Jonathan Taylor (RB, IND) | My Rank: RB11, Consensus Rank: RB5

One of the questions of the week is how to approach the Colts’ offense without Daniel Jones. For me, especially given they are facing an elite Seattle defense, I’m worried about a total collapse with literal grandfather Philip Rivers under center. JT is still a must-start, but he might cost plenty of managers in the fantasy playoffs after carrying them there in the first place.

Tyler Warren (TE, IND) | My Rank: TE8, Consensus Rank: TE10

Like Juwan before him, Warren is a member of that large tier of borderline TE1s. I’m choosing to believe in him a little because, if the 44-year-old Rivers can do anything, it might be check down to his talented rookie TE. But there’s a real chance he can’t even do that, so Warren is a far riskier option than he was just a week ago.

Tennessee Titans @ San Francisco 49ers

Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET | Projected Totals: Titans 15.75, 49ers 28.25

Interesting Players

Brock Purdy (QB, SF) | My Rank: QB8, Consensus Rank: QB3

Coming shortly after the Stafford discrepancy in the opposite direction, there is clearly a large tier of solid but not elite QB1s this week. I’ve got Purdy near the bottom of that tier because the other options all either have rushing upside (Lamar Jackson, Drake Maye, Jalen Hurts) or more high-volume passing upside (Joe Burrow, the aforementioned Stafford, Dak Prescott).

But you really can’t go wrong with any of these guys this week — Purdy should be able to rack up points against the Titans’ defense, the only question is whether he shuts it down after a quarter or two.

Ricky Pearsall (WR, SF) | My Rank: WR53, Consensus Rank: WR38

The issue with Ricky Pearsall is that he is averaging just 1.7 catches for 6.7 yards on 3.0 targets per game since his return from injury. In theory, he has a solid role as the WR2 for an efficient offense against a terrible defense. In practice, he seems to be an afterthought as the 49ers’ fourth option. I want to see him produce something before ranking him as more than a very low-floor flex option.

Minnesota Vikings @ Dallas Cowboys

Sunday, 8:20 p.m. ET | Projected Totals: Vikings 21.00, Cowboys 27.00

CeeDee Lamb (WR, DAL) | My Rank: WR5, Consensus Rank: WR8 vs. George Pickens (WR, DAL) | My Rank: WR9, Consensus Rank: WR5

This one’s pretty simple for me. CeeDee Lamb is a better player than George Pickens, and I’m always going to rank him higher when they are both healthy. If we exclude the Week 3 game that he exited after just seven snaps, Lamb has outscored Pickens 14.8 to 13.6 in games where they are both healthy. He has also seen clearly superior usage, with a 25% target share and 38% air yards share to Pickens’ 22% and 31%.

Dak Prescott (QB, DAL) | My Rank: QB5, Consensus Rank: QB8

We are diving once again into that large tier of solid QB1s. I like Dak because he has been playing genuinely excellent football all season (as reflected in his 20.7 fantasy points per game). But the Vikings do allow the third-fewest points per game to opposing QBs, so I understand the consensus having him slightly lower.

Miami Dolphins @ Pittsburgh Steelers

Monday, 8:15 p.m. ET | Projected Totals: Dolphins 19.50, Steelers 22.50

Interesting Players

Jaylen Waddle (WR, MIA) | My Rank: WR11, Consensus Rank: WR18

Jaylen Waddle has operated as a legitimate fantasy WR1 ever since Tyreek Hill went down. Since Week 5, he ranks 14th in target share, first in air yards share, and 16th in fantasy points per game. Especially against a very beatable Steelers secondary, I like his chances to put up a big week to start the fantasy playoffs … with that said, he is another member of that large tier of high-end WR2 types, so the gap between him and my WR18 really isn’t that large.

Kenneth Gainwell (RB, PIT) | My Rank: RB34, Consensus Rank: RB26

Kenneth Gainwell isn’t just a backup, having carved out a real role in the Steelers’ backfield. But we’re also coming off a week in which he saw just four carries (Jaylen Warren saw eight). He’s Pittsburgh’s primary pass-catching back, but that isn’t the ideal role in a game where the Steelers are favored. I can see moving him up a spot or two, but I definitely can’t get behind ranking him above legit NFL RB1s like D’Andre Swift, Tyrone Tracy, and Aaron Jones.
