Start Here: 2024 Review

Before we dive into 2025, here’s a quick, clean look at who actually scored in 2024 — followed by the Blueprint view that really matters: which players delivered the most wins across positions, not just the most points at their own position.

From Rankings to Real Wins — the Blueprint Way

Blueprint readers know the assignment: we don’t stop at “Who scored the most at their position?” You compete against starting lineups, so instead of value over replacement like some sites use, the right baseline is the average starter for each position in a 12‑team league. We compare every player’s total to that baseline to get Value Over Average (VOA).

For a deeper background on why we care about value relative to a baseline—and why simple totals can mislead—see our explainer: Value Over Replacement.

In short: the edge comes from how far your starter outperforms the typical starter your opponent can field, not just how high your player ranks inside his position. Measuring VOA captures that cross‑positional advantage directly. You can see below that not all fantasy points are created equal! If it were all about points, QBs would be taken 1 through 12 in the first round. Sounds simple, but most sites don’t get this concept.

What This Means for 2025

  • QB elite or wait: If you pass on the top dual‑threats, plan to gain your advantage elsewhere (two elite WRs, RB anchor + elite TE, etc.).
  • RB roles still drive outcomes: Passing‑game usage + goal‑line access remain the separators.
  • WR volume is king: Target share and route participation matter more than brand names.
  • TE scarcity is real: A top‑tier TE can still create outsized VOA relative to the field.
  • Edges exist at K/DST: You don’t have to draft them early but taking a chance on getting a top option can quietly add VOA over the season.

Note on K/DST strategy: Seeing Ks and DSTs appear in the Top‑80 VOA doesn’t mean you draft them before your other starters but it does mean you should draft them earlier than you’re used to. We explain how here: Draft a Kicker Where?. And if you’ve been around a while — you’re Blueprint people — you already knew that.
