NHL DFS: 12-27-23

The NHL is back after the Christmas break with a massive 14-game main slate on DraftKings. We have 7 games with an implied game total of 7 goals, all of which are viable player pools:

CLS@NJ
FLA@TB
OTT@TOR
DET@MIN
DAL@STL
COL@ARI
SJ@LA

I lean towards these games to find fantasy value in such a large slate. Of these games, I like Detroit at Minnesota. Detroit is scoring on droves but has no goaltending and will be starting a 3rd string goalie tonight. Patrick Kane has played just 10 games and has 5 goals and 5 assists for Detroit. Minnesota is almost a carbon copy of the Wings. This game could be 9-10 goals. Florida at Tampa Bay is always a fun game and usually high-scoring, with Kucherov on a record-breaking goal-scoring season.

Winnipeg is in an interesting position against the Blackhawks. Chicago is fun to watch with Connor Bedard, but they are not a good team and can give up a lot of goals. Toronto is another good target with the Senators spiraling out of control, but they are expensive. Look at Columbus and Buffalo for some value.

Good luck and join me in Discord!

Joe Mixon headed to NFI list
RB to miss at least first four games with ankle issue Texans are not activating RB Joe Mixon by Tuesday s 4 pm ET deadline, making him ineligible to play at least the first four games this season due to an ankle injury. Mixon will be moved to Reserve/Non-Football Injury, which automatically rules him out for at least four games. (ESPN - Adam Schefter) FF Today's Take: By all accounts, Mixon did not participate in OTAs or has not practiced at all since the team reported to training camp. At this point, it would be shocking if he is ready to practice - much less play - by Week 5. Fantasy managers should not expect Mixon to contribute in a meaningful way until at least Week 8 - especially considering he has likely done little more than take mental reps in new OC Nick Caley's offense. Nick Chubb and Dameon Pierce - assuming the latter is not cut on Tuesday - is expected to handle most of the early-down work, while rookie Woody Marks should take most of the work in the passing game.
