Waiver Hub – Week 2

Happy Tuesday, Mike here, welcome back to my weekly Waiver HUB.

Week 1 has ended and Week 2 is just a couple days away. The Thursday Night football game we get this week is a matchup between the 1-0 Washington Commanders and the 1-0 Green Bay Packers. Packers are currently favored to win by 3.5 points with an over/under of 48.5 total points. Jayden Daniels and company will look to stop the Packers who are riding a high after making the Detroit Lions look silly in week 1.

Fantasy football is underway now so it’s time to make some moves and prepare for fantasy post season greatness. Injuries are inevitable so here’s another chance to hit the waiver wire and get impactful players. Another week gone, another opportunity to make your team stronger and inch your way to that league trophy and an offseason of bragging rights.

Below are my top waiver wire priorities this week. Go get those available players to help your chances at a championship. Good luck this week and remember to check back every week to stay informed on who you could target off of waivers.

TOP PRIORITY OF THE WEEK

Hollywood Brown – Kansas City Chiefs

Hollywood Brown had quite the game in week 1 with Rashee Rice not active and Xavier Worthy getting injured minutes into the game. Brown was targeted a league high 16 times and turned those looks into 10 receptions for 99 receiving yards. With Rice still out and Xavier Worthy’s health in question, Brown should be a priority pick up if you need a WR or FLEX player. Tough matchup against Philly in week 2 but most likely Mahomes top pass catcher.

Quarterbacks

Trevor Lawrence – Jacksonville Jaguars

Trevor Lawrence finished week 1 with 178 receiving yards, 12 rushing yards, and 1 TD pass with 1 INT. Was a weird situation being up big early and then having a severe delay due to weather. I don’t see many more blowout wins in their future, so Lawrence will have to keep slinging the rock when he isn’t handing it off to Etienne. Travis Hunter, Brenton Strange and Brian Thomas Jr are an embarrassment of riches for the QB.

Running Backs

Zach Charbonnet – Seattle Seahawks

Charbonnet had 12 carries in week 1 which equated to 47 rushing yards and a TD. Kenneth Walker had less carries (10) and only averaged 2 yards per carry. It’s clear Zach is going to stay heavily involved in the Seattle offense and if he is available in your league it’s a no brainer. Charbonnet has a matchup with Pittsburgh who is usually tough to run on, but after that the schedule softens a bit for Seattles run game.

Dylan Sampson – Cleveland Browns

Dylan Sampson took full advantage of his playing time in week 1. It is unclear how the RBs will coexist and share time for the Browns, but after Samson’s good week 1 it would be wise for the Browns to continue to feed him. He had the most carries (12) on the team even though it only led to 29 rushing yards. The story here is that he was targeted 8 times! He caught all 8 passes and finished with 64 receiving yards. Joe Flacco clearly likes to check the ball down to him and he takes full advantage of those Targets.

Wide Receivers

Hollywood Brown – Kansas City Chiefs

Quentin Johnston – LA Chargers

Quintin Johnston had 7 targets in week 1 which was 3rd on the team behind Keenan Allen and Ladd McConkey. Despite them having more targets and receptions, Quinten led the team in receiving yards with 79 and also scored twice! He was top 2 in receiving TDs for the Chargers last season and that is a trend that seems to keep going. 4 of the next 5 opponents aren’t great defensive teams so Johnston could be in line for consistent action. Worth a pick up.

Tight Ends

Harold Fannin Jr – Cleveland Browns

Harold Fannin Jr was quite the surprise for the Browns against the Bengals. He caught 7 of his team high 9 targets and turned those into 63 receiving yards. David Njoku who is normally TE1 for the Browns had 6 targets creating 3 receptions for 37 yards. Only Dylan Sampson had more receptions and that’s their RB as I wrote about above. Joe Flacco must really like Fannin which could be a good connection moving forward, but hurts Njoku owners. The rookie gets a vet at QB only helping his cause.

Juwan Johnson – New Orleans Saints

Juwan Johnson was a surprise contributor in week 1 when he took on the Cardinals. Johnson had 11 targets which was surprisingly 2nd on the team behind Chris Olave. Even so, Juwan led the Saints in receptions and receiving yards going for 76 yards From 8 catches. I’m not a big believer in Spencer Rattler or the Saints offense, but there is value there at a TE position that can be sporadic and inconsistent throughout the league.
