Waiver Hub – Week 3

Happy Tuesday, Mike here, welcome back to my weekly Waiver HUB. Follow me on Twitter (@FantasyHubbard) for all things fantasy football throughout the season.

Week 3 is days away with a Thursday Night Football game between the 1-1 Patriots and the 1-1 Jets. Both teams want that 2nd win and more importantly that division rivalry win. The over/under is low currently at 37.5 with the Jets being favored by 6.5.

Fantasy football is underway now so it’s time to make some moves and prepare for fantasy post season greatness. Injuries are inevitable so here’s another chance to hit the waiver wire and get impactful players. Another week gone, another opportunity to make your team stronger and inch your way to that league trophy and an offseason of bragging rights.

Below are my top waiver wire priorities this week. Go get those available players to help your chances at a championship. Good luck this week and remember to check back every week to stay informed on who you could target off of waivers.

TOP PRIORITY OF THE WEEK

Derek Carr – New Orleans Saints

Derek Carr has had quite the start to his season. In 2 starts he has 5 passing TDs and a rushing TD as well. What’s most impressive is that he had 23 pass attempts in week 1 and then just 16 in week 2. Carr has made it look easy thus far throwing for 443 yards and blowing out the Panthers and Cowboys.

Running Backs

Rico Dowdle – Dallas Cowboys

Rico has been part of Dallas’ 2-man RB system with Ezekiel Elliot. Both RBs have 56 rushing yards through 2 weeks, but Rico has 1 less carry. Rico also is coming off a 5 target 4 reception game. His usage seems to be growing each week. Next up he has Baltimore and then the Giants.

Carson Steele – Kansas City Chiefs

Isaiah Pacheco is going to be out an extensive number of weeks after his week 2 injury. So, who is going to get RB1 responsibilities? The Chiefs have Carson Steele, Samaje Perine, and there are talks that Kareem Hunt could return to Kansas City. So, who is the guy to add? I’m picking Steele based off how they have used him the most. He has 9 rushes for 27 yards while Samaje has 2 receptions this season and no rush attempts. That makes me believe Steele will get early down work while Perine is mainly a 3rd down receiving back. Kareem Hunt could spoil all of this so tread lightly.

Wide Receivers

Demarcus Robinson – LA Rams

The Rams were already down Puka Nacua after week 1 and now they have Cooper Kupp expected to miss some time with an ankle injury. When the Rams aren’t running the ball they have to throw it to someone. Robinson has 11 targets after 2 weeks which is 1 more than Tyler Johnson. Both are worth adding if you need WR help or depth, but I would prefer Robinson.

Darnell Mooney – Atlanta Falcons

Mooney just went for 88 receiving yards and a TD on MNF catching 3 of his 7 targets. Mooney leads his team in receiving yard after 2 weeks. Kirk Cousins looked a lot better in week 2 compared to week 1 and if him and Mooney can keep up the chemistry, they could be a lethal connection.

Tight Ends

Hunter Henry – New England Patriots

Henry came out of nowhere in week 2 with a whopping 12 targets against the Seattle Seahawks. He converted those targets into 8 receptions and 109 receiving yards. After 2 weeks Henry is 3rd in the NFL in TE receiving yards and only 4 TEs have more targets. Henry can be tough to trust on a Patriots offense, but then again, he might be someone that Jacoby Brissett trusts and will rely on.
