Waiver Hub – Week 17

Happy week 17 to all. It is a new week and we have reached the next round of fantasy playoffs so let’s keep striving for fantasy gold and let’s have a great week while we are at it! Mike here, welcome back to my weekly Waiver HUB. Follow me on Twitter (@FantasyHubbard) for all things fantasy football throughout the season.

Go out and make some moves and strive for fantasy postseason greatness. Injuries are inevitable so here’s another chance to hit the waiver wire and get impactful players. Another week gone, another opportunity to make your team stronger and inch your way to that league trophy and an offseason of bragging rights.

Below are my top waiver wire priorities this week. Go get those available players to help your chances at a championship. Good luck this week and remember to check back every week to stay informed on who you could target off of waivers.

TOP PRIORITY OF THE WEEK

Tyler Allgeier – Atlanta Falcons

Tyler is a solid choice this week if he is available at RB and you need someone to fit in there. Allgeier has 7+ carries in every single game this season giving him a chance to breakout in any game. He is coming off a performance where the Falcons dominated the Colts and Tyler finished with 69 rushing yards on 9 carries and caught his lone target for an additional 19 yards. He found the end zone for the 4th time this season and next up is the Chicago defense that is not scaring many RBs.

Quarterbacks

Joe Flacco – Cleveland Browns

Flacco continues to turn back time on his career. The 38-year-old has now played in 4 consecutive games with the Browns and is on a 3-game winning streak. He has multiple TD passes in all 4 games and has Cleveland turning heads. The matchup isn’t ideal against the Jets secondary, but the vet should be able to get his with the crazy connections he is making with Njoku and Cooper.

Derek Carr – New Orleans Saints

Carr is coming off back-to-back weeks with 3 passing TDs. He hasn’t done that all year even once until week 15. Carr is playing some of his best ball right now and he gets the Buccaneers defense this week which shouldn’t be an issue. They met in week 4 when Carr played terrible, but this time it should be different. I’m expecting a shootout in Tampa this week and Carr should be a big part of that.

Running Backs

Clyde Edwards-Helaire – Kansas City Chiefs

CEH is the clear RB2 in KC with Jerick McKinnon on IR. Pacheco is currently questionable but most likely will play, maybe on a snap count. Monitor the situation closely.  If that’s the case CEH should get some opportunities against the Bengals defense. Clyde has been playing well in the pass catching role out of the backfield.

Tyler Allgeier – Atlanta Falcons

Wide Receivers

KJ Osborn – Minnesota Vikings

KJ is a great streamer this week to add to your fantasy team if you’re still fighting. Kj played the Packers once already this season when he caught 8 of his 10 targets for 99 receiving yards. Those were season highs in targets, receptions, and receiving yards. Jordan Addison is dealing with ankle injury which is unclear the severity at this time. Osborn could be WR2 against the Packers this week after scoring last game and putting 95 yards up on Detroit.

Rashid Shaheed – New Orleans Saints

I like Shaheed in this spot if you need WR help, especially with Derek Carr tossing it around and throwing TDs. Shaheed is a big boom or bust WR which can be great, and it can be awful. The matchup is awesome playing Tampa Bay in what could be a shootout. Rashid is coming off a 5 reception, 70 receiving yards, 9 target game where he scored his 4th TD of the year. Shaheed’s ceiling is way too high to overlook.

Tight Ends

Tucker Kraft – Green Bay Packers

Kraft has been coming on lately with Luke Musgraves on IR. Musgraves is able to return from IR this week, but we can’t ignore how Kraft played with Love. Since week 13 the Packers have played 3 top defenses when it comes to defending opposing TEs. He has 6 targets in 3 of his last 4 games, and all 4 games he had 3+ receptions. His last 3 games he has hovered above or below 60 receiving yards and he scored his 2nd TD of the season in week 15.

Gerald Everett – LA Chargers

The Chargers TE has 3 consecutive games with 8 targets after he hadn’t even had 1 game like that all season prior. He has 4+ receptions in 5 consecutive games and gets the Broncos defense that he caught 5 passes against. Chargers’ offense may seem lost and bad, but Everett has been a little beneficiary lately.

Joe Mixon headed to NFI list
RB to miss at least first four games with ankle issue Texans are not activating RB Joe Mixon by Tuesday s 4 pm ET deadline, making him ineligible to play at least the first four games this season due to an ankle injury. Mixon will be moved to Reserve/Non-Football Injury, which automatically rules him out for at least four games. (ESPN - Adam Schefter) FF Today's Take: By all accounts, Mixon did not participate in OTAs or has not practiced at all since the team reported to training camp. At this point, it would be shocking if he is ready to practice - much less play - by Week 5. Fantasy managers should not expect Mixon to contribute in a meaningful way until at least Week 8 - especially considering he has likely done little more than take mental reps in new OC Nick Caley's offense. Nick Chubb and Dameon Pierce - assuming the latter is not cut on Tuesday - is expected to handle most of the early-down work, while rookie Woody Marks should take most of the work in the passing game.
