DFS Building Blocks – Week 18
17 fascinating weeks of NFL action have passed us by, leaving us with just one more mega-slate of Sunday games. The 49ers got back to winning ways last week, but an injury to CMC would have derailed a lot of San Francisco-based stacks.
The Eagles’ loss to the Cardinals was the stand-out match, with the 49ers locking up the one seed in the NFC as a result. Philadelphia’s defense really is one of the worst in the league, and a Cardinals stack would have rewarded players last week.
With both number-one seeds now decided and some teams locked into playoff spots, we will have to work our way around certain players who are being rested. But this could create some interesting values for us. We have 13 games to pick from in the Sunday slate this weekend, with most games coming in the later afternoon slot. It’s going to be busy! Let’s see what is out there.
Game Overviews
Minnesota Vikings @ Detroit Lions
Location: Ford Field, Detroit, Michigan
Time: Sunday 1 p.m. ET
Money Line: Vikings +165 ; Lions -200
Spread: Detroit Lions -3
Total: 45.5
The Minnesota Vikings will be taking on a Detroit Lions team that is basically locked into their playoff spot this weekend, but could still move up to the two seed if the Cowboys lose. We might see some of the Lions players spending time on the sidelines. This greatly reduces the excitement around this game from a DFS perspective, as I don’t want to be throwing out any Lions that could be pulled halfway through the game.
One option for people who are feeling very brave is a Vikings stack featuring Nick Mullens and Justin Jefferson. The Lions are giving up the 4th most fantasy points to opposition wide receivers, and that is with a full-strength defense. If they decide to protect some of their starters, that secondary could become even weaker, putting Jefferson in a smash spot.
Mullens is not a high-calibre quarterback, but he does latch on to Jefferson. The pair posted 141 yards and a score together against a full-strength Lions squad two weeks ago, so I like them to have another strong outing this week.
Injuries to TJ Hockenson and Jordan Addison should funnel even more targets Jefferson’s way, but it does mean I won’t be looking for any other Minnesota action. Ty Chandler is clearly the preferred running back, but the Lions have one of the best-run defenses in the NFL, so I won’t be looking his way.

Hmmmm, there isn’t much to love here is there? We have two teams that have endured a season of disappointment, and probably can’t wait for it to end. It doesn’t scream DFS value, does it?
To make matters worse, we have two pretty good defenses, making it even harder to find some potential fantasy points. The players most likely to go off are Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson. Hall has been the recipient of never-ending check-downs from Trevor Siemian, resulting in three of his last four performances going for over 26 fantasy points. This kind of usage makes him matchup-proof and pretty appealing this weekend, but, if you’re the Jets, why risk his health?
Garrett Wilson has also seen lots of action, getting 43 targets across his last four games. They haven’t amounted to much, but the Patriots are much more beatable than the Browns secondary he had to face last week. You have to shoot for the stars in DFS, and Garrett Wilson has enough talent that I don’t mind going with him at $5,900 for a final-week surprise.
On the Patriots side, I am only really interested in Ezekiel Elliott and Hunter Henry, but neither fills me with much hope. The Jets are so good at covering wide receivers on the outside that attacking them through tight ends and running backs is the best option. Both players should get volume, but I think you’re better off avoiding the Patriots’ offense altogether.

Location: Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte, North Carolina
Time: Sunday 1 p.m. ET
Money Line: Buccaneers -240 ; Panthers +190
Spread: Tampa Bay Buccaneers -4.5

Tampa Bay is one team that will definitely be playing their starters, as they aim to secure a division title. The stand-out option for me is Rachaad White, going up against a Panthers defense that is giving up the second most points to the running back position this season.
Conversely, the Panthers are a top 5 unit against wide receivers in fantasy, so I am much less excited about Chris Godwin, Mike Evans and Baker Mayfield. I would personally stick to White as a standalone player, but the Evans + Mayfield stack has been so good this year that it remains an option.
On the Carolina side, I would be looking the way of Adam Thielen only. He gets to go up against a Tampa Bay secondary that is giving up the most passing yards per game this year. He remains the only talented playmaker on the team, and I expect him to see a good number of targets.
Chuba Hubbard is also seeing some good work as the clearly preferred running back. Unfortunately, it has resulted in four consecutive scores of either 11 or 12, so I think he is better left out.

Cleveland Browns @ Cincinnati Bengals
Location: Paul Brown Stadium, Cincinnati, Ohio
Time: Sunday 1 p.m. ET
Money Line: Browns +240 ; Bengals -300
Spread: Cincinnati Bengals -7
Total: 37.5
It has already been confirmed that the Cleveland Browns are resting Joe Flacco and some of their starters, which makes their passing attack a no-go zone for me. Even if the likes of David Njoku and Jerome Ford do start, I think there is a high chance they won’t finish the game, so I will be avoiding Cleveland altogether.
I also don’t like the options on the Cincinnati side. Tee Higgins is likely to miss with an injury, which will free up more targets for Jamar Chase. The only issue is that he has to do his work against potentially the best defense in the league. Now, they may decide to take a few players out of the game, which would make life easier, but it is a risky play at $7,300.
Joe Mixon has been putting up some nice points at the running back position for the Bengals, but I worry about the matchup, and they may use this as an opportunity to get their exciting rookie, Chase Brown, some run time. He goes down as a cheap lottery pick, but on the whole, I would be avoiding this game.

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Tennessee Titans
Location: Nissan Stadium, Nashville, Tennessee
Time: Sunday 1 p.m. ET
Money Line: Jaguars -220 ; Titans +180
Spread: Jacksonville Jaguars -5
Total: 40
The Jaguars dispatched the lousy Panthers last week, in a game where Travis Etienne finally got going again. It is not such a good matchup this weekend, but he is a crucial part of the rushing and receiving game, so I expect him to see plenty of work.
It also looks like a good week to dust off Calvin Ridley and plug him into your lineup. The Titans are a bottom-10 defense against the wide receiver position, and Ridley had 31 fantasy points against them the last time they played. You will want to make sure that Trevor Lawrence is healthy and playing before slotting him in though. If he is, $6,500 is fantastic value for Ridley.
Christian Kirk is getting activated off IR, but he’s priced like he’s not! He’s probably a must-start on both sites, but also a strong case to be made for moving to Ridley for leverage.
Evan Engram has been a fantastic target for Lawrence this season. He is another good option on a day when a Jaguars stack is looking quite appealing. They have to win to secure the division title, and they are playing against a Titans team that will have their feet up next week.
This is likely Derrick Henry’s final game for the Titans, so I would love to be able to plug him in for DFS. The problem is, the Jaguars are giving up the 9th fewest points to running backs, and I can imagine they will be loading the box against him. There’s not a logical reason to play him, but… here’s to one last ride for King Henry.
There are question marks at the quarterback position this week, as Levis left last week’s game with an injury. I won’t be playing the Tennessee quarterback, regardless of who takes the field, but I will be considering Deandre Hopkins. The Jaguars secondary is very beatable, giving up 245 passing yards per game (27th in NFL). At $6,100 I think Hopkins has some good upside.

Atlanta Falcons @ New Orleans Saints
Location: Caesars Superdome, New Orleans, Louisiana
Time: Sunday 1 p.m. ET
Money Line: Falcons +140 ; Saints -167
Spread: New Orleans Saints -3
Total: 42.5
A very important game in the Superdome is taking place this weekend, with playoff hopes at stake. Alvin Kamara left last week’s game with an injury and is not practicing this week, which is a big blow for the Saints. If he misses, I won’t be recommending Jamaal Williams, whose upside is nowhere near as high.
If Kamara does miss, it should result in fewer check-downs and more targets sent in the direction of Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed. The Falcons are giving up the fourth-fewest fantasy points to the wide receiver position, so I wouldn’t want too much exposure.
They are, however, a bottom-10 unit against tight ends. So it could be another big week for Juwan Johnson and Taysom Hill. I think the Saints found something in Johnson last week, as they targeted him 12 times, resulting in 8 catches for 90 yards and a score. I like him a lot at $3,600 this weekend.
For Atlanta, we all know the story around Bijan Robinson, Drake London and Kyle Pitts by now. They are all very talented but who knows which games Arthur Smith is going to decide to use them in. With the season on the line, I think we have to assume he gets Bijan going at the very least. He saw 15 carries and 4 targets last week, which is a workload I expect him to get again this week.
I certainly have Bijan down as an individual option, but, on the whole, this is not an offense you want too much exposure to.

Dallas Cowboys @ Washington Commanders
Location: FedExField, Landover, Maryland
Time: Sunday 4:25 p.m. ET
Money Line: Cowboys -900 ; Commanders +600
Spread: Dallas Cowboys -13
Total: 46
This one is screaming out for another dominant air raid display by the Dallas Cowboys. Only Tampa Bay has given up more passing yards than Washington this year, and their secondary should be completely overpowered by Dak Prescott and company. CeeDee Lamb is rightfully the most expensive receiver on DraftKings this week, but it is deserved, as he has become one of the best fantasy assets over the second half of the season.
Brandin Cooks has been getting involved as well, and his price of $5,200 looks very appealing, especially considering Lamb could be pulled from the game if Dallas stretches to an early lead. I love stacking him with Prescott this week, but I will be avoiding Jake Ferguson who has been relatively quiet over the last few weeks. I am happy to leave him out at $4,900.
On the Washington side of the ball, there is not much that stands out. You would expect them to be in a pass-happy game script, which brings Terry McLaurin into at $5,500. He has gone over 15 fantasy points twice in the last three weeks.
Brian Robinson is in consideration as well, but I don’t like the matchup against a Dallas defense in a pass-heavy game script. He has done some damage as a receiver this season, but you would have to be brave to plug him in.
I’ll also take some shots on Dallas DEF paired with Dowdle or Pollard.

Jarrett Stidham entered the Broncos lineup last week and wasn’t much of a downgrade on Russell Wilson. The bad news is that the distribution was a bit of a mess, with only one player seeing more than 3 targets. The running back work was split as well, with Javonte Williams only averaging 2.7 yards per carry and conceding 8 carries to a far more productive Jaleel McLaughlin.
The Broncos may use this to give McLaughlin a bit more of a run, given that he registered 44 yards on his 8 carries. I don’t mind him as a cheap lottery pick, but on the whole, I think this is an offense to avoid for DFS purposes. There is too much unpredictability and not enough quality.
There are a couple of options on the Raiders side. Davante Adams is still a very dangerous receiver who could go big in any game. The better matchup though, goes to the Las Vegas running backs. Josh Jacobs is still not practicing after missing two games. If he misses, I will be recommending Zamir White once again. He has gone over 14 fantasy points in each of his last three games, and now gets to go up against a Denver defense that is giving up the third most fantasy points to the running back position. Fire him up!

Seattle Seahawks @ Arizona Cardinals
Location: State Farm Stadium, Glendale, Arizona
Time: Sunday 4:25 p.m. ET
Money Line: Seahawks -150 ; Cardinals +125
Spread: Seattle Seahawks -2.5
Total: 47.5
The Seahawks need a win this weekend, so I will be looking their way as a team to build one of my lineups around. Arizona is giving up 357 total yards per game, with a lot of them coming on the ground as teams grind out a win. The Seahawks have a talented group of receivers, and they should have no problem getting the better of the Cardinals’ secondary.
DK Metcalf is your best bet. He has 5 consecutive games with double-digit fantasy points and has the ability to rip off a big play at any moment. The Cardinals’ defense is the perfect candidate to give up a big play, so I like him this week at $7,200.
Kenneth Walker is also incredibly appealing. The Cardinals are giving up the most fantasy points to running backs this year, and Walker is a relentless, bruising running back that should dominate them. He is questionable at the moment, and should he miss the game, I am also very confident in throwing Zach Charbonnet out there in his place.
Arizona is coming off an incredible victory against the Philadelphia Eagles. Kyler Murray had his best game of the season, and I remain confident in him this week against Seattle. They are giving up the 4th most fantasy points to quarterbacks this year, and Murray has had a good connection with a number of different pass-catchers.
Trey McBride is the standout option. He is the focal point of the offense and should be considered a top option at tight end every week. James Conner has been incredible at the running back position, and I quite like Greg Dortch at the receiver position. The Seahawks’ number one receiver, Devon Witherspoon, will likely stick to the outside, leaving Dortch to battle against some of Seattle’s less talented cornerbacks. I like him at $4,600.

Time: Sunday 4:25 p.m. ET
Money Line: Rams +164 ; 49ers -198
Spread: San Francisco 49ers -4
Total: 41
Thanks to both teams already securing playoff spots, this game will be a clash between a Carson Wentz-led Rams and a Sam Darnold-led 49ers. It is impossible to tell how much the other starters will play, but if they do take to the field I can’t imagine it will be for long.
This adds a lot of uncertainty to this game for DFS, which I personally want to avoid. Demarcus Robinson is the only sure-fire player I would feel confident in, as he has been heavily featured in the Rams’ offense, even with Kupp and Nacua on the field. The 49ers are beatable through the air, and if they sit their starters, Robinson could have some fun out there.
Jauan Jennings is the receiver who would benefit from Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk sitting on the bench, but there is no way to know how long they do that for. If they start the game, I would simply avoid all 49er pass catchers.
Elijah Mitchell looks set to start at running back. He had a good game last week filling in for Christian McCaffrey after he left with an injury, but I don’t like his matchup this week. The Rams are giving up the fewest points to the running back position this year, which takes a lot of the shine off him.
This is a very weird game to try and figure out. You are opting for a lot of risk if you play any of the big names, and there are massive question marks about what the lineups look like as the game progresses. I will be avoiding this one outside of some cheap tournament lineups.

Is this Justin Fields’ last game for Chicago? The third-year quarterback will be looking to put on a show this weekend, aiming to capitalize on his last opportunity to show what he can do and convince GMs that he should be the starting quarterback for them.
The Packers have had issues on the defensive side of the ball this year, with their defensive coordinator, Joe Barry, coming under a lot of pressure at times. I think Fields goes ballistic on them. I expect to see him running all over the shop and dishing out deep balls to DJ Moore all afternoon long. I want some exposure to both of them for sure.
The running backs are harder to figure out. Khalil Herbert figures to get the most carries, but Roschon Johnson has been getting more involved and the Bears may want to give him some more touches in the final game of the year. I quite like him as a cheeky upside play at a discount.
This will be a fascinating test for Jordan Love. The Chicago Bears defense has come on a lot over the season, and they are now one of the best units in the league. His receiver group is banged up, so I won’t be looking their way in DFS.
Aaron Jones is very much in play after his 120-yard rushing performance against a stout Vikings defense last week. I also like Tucker Kraft, who continues to be a reliable performer at tight end. These are the two players I would want to put up for the Packers against the Bears stack.

Location: MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey
Time: Sunday 4:25 p.m. ET

Spread: Philadelphia Eagles -5
Total: 42
Surely the Eagles’ collapse doesn’t continue against the Giants this weekend? It has been a miserable month or so, but I back them to put out a good performance against New York.
The coaching staff has admitted they need to get AJ Brown going this week, so I think it could be a huge day for the big wide receiver. He will be expensive, but he definitely has the potential to end up as the wide receiver one on the week.
I also like Dallas Goedert at tight end. DeVonta Smith’s injury should funnel more targets in his direction. He is a talented player, and the added volume should lead to a big day.
I wouldn’t recommend D’Andre Swift. He has only hit double-digit points once in since week 12, with Jalen Hurts taking away so much of his upside. I think this week will be about getting the passing attack back on track.
If we want to get an idea about how the Giants will get on against this Eagles defense, we can look back to two weeks ago. Like most teams against Philadelphia, they were able to get Darius Slayton loose for a long touchdown. He had another one last week against the Rams, and with Tyrod Taylor set to play the whole game, I think he gives you good upside at a good price.
Darren Waller is a good option at tight end, but I don’t fancy any others. I expect this Eagles defense to be angry and out to prove a point.

Location: SoFi Stadium, Inglewood, California
Time: Sunday 4:25 p.m. ET
Money Line: Chiefs +165 ; Chargers -200
Spread: Los Angeles Chargers -3.5

Patrick Mahomes has already been ruled out for this game, which is bad news for sports fans watching this game. The Chargers have been unwatchable for weeks, and the Chiefs have had their own issues when it comes to moving the ball. I won’t lie, there isn’t much to like here.
If we weren’t getting much DFS juice out of the Chiefs with Mahomes in the lineup, I think we should expect even less with Blaine Gabbert in charge. Isaiah Pacheco has the best matchup on the day, but you have to believe that he will sit for all or some of the game. The same goes for Rashee Rice and Travis Kelce. Super cheap Noah Gray is in play.
The Chiefs pass catchers have been the joke of the league for much of the year, so I won’t be looking their way, even with the increased volume around. I do, however, like Clyde Edwards-Helaire at running back. CEH has had some good moments when called upon this year, and I think he should see plenty of work this week. At $4,900, I think he has enough upside to be of interest.
For the Chargers, they are coming off a game where they scored only 9 points against the Broncos. Alex Erickson’s 98 receiving yards led all other Chargers pass-catchers by 67 yards, and it was also 50 yards clear of Austin Ekeler’s 50 yards from scrimmage. To cut a long story short, there is no way you want to be spending the last week of the season cheering on the Chargers for DFS purposes.

The Lineup Build
We are spoilt for choice this week, with 13 games available on the main slate. Life is made a bit harder with some teams sitting their starters, but I think I have found some great options.
The most appealing game to me looks like the Seahawks and Cardinals clash, with both offenses giving us plenty of options.
I also like Justin Fields this week, in what could be his final game for Chicago. The Packers’ defense has had its difficulties this year, and Fields will be looking to put on a show in what could be viewed as his final audition for his next team.
Finally, it is hard to look away from the Dallas matchup against Washington. Dak Prescott was in the MVP conversation for most of the season, and he is in a great spot to explode one more time in the regular season. Yes, they could rest players towards the end, but they have to pile up the points first, and I expect them to do that.
And, could build around the Lions and Vikings if you want, but I’ll mostly shy away from that one. Have to take a stand somewhere.
FD
FanDuel is including the Bills and Dolphins game on the main slate, which we didn’t cover above, so we’ll touch on it a bit here as it’s the core of our FD lineup. Allen + Diggs + Davis + Hill. Diggs may get some focus as he’s had a rough stretch. This could play out like the Cowboys and Dolphins game, but I feel something more like a 70-point game total coming. If it does, all the others chasing uncertain value players will be left in the dust with this core.
Adding Christian Kirk, who should be super popular, saves us some salary and we’ll add Derrick Henry, at tiny ownership, to get some ownership leverage on all the Kirk-only lineups. It’s a little scary, but let’s go Henry.
I’ll be look at Johnson or Taysom Hill and will be playing around with the other RB and DEF.
DK
I fancy an explosive game between the Cardinals and Seahawks this weekend, so I am going heavy on this one. Kyler Murray, Greg Dortch and Trey McBride are in for Arizona, with DK Metcalf and Kenneth Walker coming in for Seattle. If Walker can’t go, I will make a late substitution for Zach Charbonnet.
Bijan Robinson takes the second running back spot, with Demarcus Robinson taking the final wide receiver slot. I think he has another big game this weekend, given Kupp and Nacua may spend most of the game on the sidelines.
The Browns’ defense is a great value at $3,300, leaving us $5,000 to play with. I am not a big fan of London, but he has much more skill and upside than any other player at a similar price. He comes in to complete the lineup.
I’ll also be making a more balanced DK lineup. Conner + Metcalf. Kirk. Jones + Moore. Noah Gray at TE. I have some built around this with Fields and some with Taylor depending on how expensive you want to go at flex.
Yahoo
Dak Prescott looks to be the best value on Yahoo, so we plug him in here. CeeDee Lamb ($39) is the most expensive wide receiver on the week, but we counteract that by getting Brandin Cooks at just $16. Terry McLaurin takes the final wide receiver slot at $19.
The Dallas stack is rounded out by adding in their defense. I can also fit in a mini-Jags stack with Travis Etienne and Calvin Ridley.
A lot of those options were on the more expensive side, so we need to go cheap for the final running back slot and tight end. The Bengals coaching staff have been talking up Chase Brown this week, so I give him a shot at a bargain price. Finally, Juwan Johnson comes in at tight end. I am banking on the Saints trying to keep him hot.
