DFS Building Blocks – Week 17

SUNDAY UPDATE:

I’m locked into my Tyrod lineup on DK. On FD, I’m building a Purdy + Deebo + Kittle stack and then a separate lineup built around CMC + Kelce, leaning to stacking Carr with it.

Mostert is out for the Dolphins. I’m not afraid of firing up a Ravens DEF at low ownership. I’ve also found my way to the Raiders DEF to pair with Zamir White.

On Yahoo, Tyrod Taylor and Zamir White are min-priced, so if you start there, you can build anything you want.

Pacheco is in, I still prefer banking (hoping) for a Kelce game this week.

DFS Building Blocks – Week 17

The Cowboys and Dolphins disappointed but hopefully you were on our Flacco + Cooper + Njoku stack that also had Mike Evans. Our chalk RBs disappointed in that lineup meaning we only had a 3x return rather than a really, really good day.

Bijan came up good again, as Arthur Smith remembered that the running back taken 8th overall has some value to offer. Their win over the Colts means that the top three teams in the AFC South (Jaguars, Texans & Colts) all remain tied at 8-7. Every week is crucial now, and the Texans get their star rookie quarterback CJ Stroud back this week. This brings them back into the equation as a very stackable team.

The Dolphins and Ravens headline our Sunday slate this week in a beautiful early afternoon clash. With just two more weeks in the regular season to go, let’s see if we can finish the year with a bang!

Game Overviews

New England Patriots @ Buffalo Bills

Location: Highmark Stadium, Orchard Park, New York

Time: Sunday 1 p.m. ET

Money Line: Patriots (+500) ; Bills (-700)

Spread: Buffalo Bills -12

Total: 40.5

The New England Patriots are rolling! Well, not quite, but the team that looked like they had a shot for the number one overall pick have now won two of their last three games. Thanks Belichick. A clash with the Bills does not suggest another win is on the way though. Buffalo is surging, and I would be wary of your Patriots’ options in this one.

Ezekiel Elliott being so frequently used as a pass catcher makes him viable, but I’m not going out of my way for it, and Demario Douglas can be useful as a very cheap lottery pick, but I wouldn’t want any more exposure to the Patriots this week.

For Buffalo, James Cook should be fine to bounce back here. It was a frustrating week against the Chargers last week, but I will chalk it up as a weird one that can be forgotten. He has been a focal point of the offense prior to that, and he should get rolling again this week.

I simply can’t trust Gabe Davis. It is either 0 or 20 points from him, and more often than not it is the former. I would be sitting him and the tight ends, who take value away from each other. That leaves Stefon Diggs to try and figure out. Diggs hasn’t gone over 10 fantasy points in each of his last three games, but it surely has to stop sometime. If you’re feeling brave, I think this could be the week he gets there.

Atlanta Falcons @ Chicago Bears

Location: Soldier Field, Chicago

Time: Sunday 1 p.m. ET

Money Line: Falcons (+140) ; Bears (-165)

Spread: Chicago Bears -3

Total: 37.5

Chicago has been a much-improved defense this year, but that won’t be scaring me off Bijan Robinson this week. He got right back in the thick of it last week, earning 12 carries and 10 targets, whilst coming very close to scoring a touchdown. Atlanta need a win to keep themselves in with a shot in the division, and letting Bijan run free (and catch!) is the best way to do that.

It was frustrating to watch London and Pitts last week, who were not given many opportunities to capitalize on a good matchup. Pitts did get a touchdown, but both only received 4 targets, which means I will be making life easier and simply ruling them out as options for me this week. It is just Bijan that is in play in my opinion.

For Chicago, Justin Fields was electric in the first half last week. He came up good in fantasy with over 25 points, and I could see that happening again here. Atlanta is not a scary defense, and Justin Fields has just two games to prove he is a starting quarterback. He should be out with all guns blazing this weekend, which should come in handy for us.

His main beneficiaries are DJ Moore and Cole Kmet, but looks like Kmet will be out and Moore maybe a little banged up. Still, it might be Moore getting a ton of volume this week. Moore might get some attention from Falcons’ excellent cornerback AJ Terrell, but he is good enough to have a good game and has an amazing connection with Fields. Roschon Johnson would be my cheap lottery pick at $4,900. Now is a great time for Chicago to see what they have in the rookie and he has been getting more involved recently.

Las Vegas Raiders @ Indianapolis Colts

Location: Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis

Time: Sunday 1 p.m. ET

Money Line: Raiders (+160) ; Colts (-190)

Spread: Indianapolis Colts -3.5

Total: 43.5

It was a massively disappointing week last week for the Colts, and it coincidentally came with Michael Pittman on the sidelines. He is back this week, which will help the offense. He has been their main avenue for moving the ball, earning 11 or more targets in his last four healthy games.

This makes Jonathan Taylor more interesting, but I won’t be rolling the dice with Gardner Minshew. Las Vegas is much more generous on the ground than they are through the air, so limiting your Colts’ exposure to just Taylor and Pittman sounds like a good bet to me.

The Raiders got a dramatic win last week, but it came with Aidan O’Connell not completing a pass in the final three quarters. An insane stat. I am not that excited to trust him, but the matchup against Indianapolis is good. My preference is for Jakobi Meyers over Adams. Meyers is $2,100 cheaper than Adams and has been a popular target for O’Connell. The discount makes him more appealing to me when I can’t be sure what version of O’Connell we will get.

The Colts are giving up the 4th most points to running backs, which means I will be happy to add in Josh Jacobs or, if he misses, Zamir White as a nice cheap option. For what it’s worth, I’m assuming Jacobs will miss so will treat White as a chalky, must-start.

Los Angeles Rams @ New York Giants

Location: MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey

Time: Sunday 1 p.m. ET

Money Line: Rams (-210) ; Giants (+175)

Spread: Los Angeles Rams -4.5

Total: 43.5

The Rams’ offense continued to motor along last week, with Stafford hitting over 300 yards, Kyren Williams rushing for over 100 and Puka Nacua going for 164. It was an impressive performance against a solid New Orleans defense.

The Giants’ defense is up next. They are giving up 363 total yards per game, which is 28th in the league. I like the Rams this week, with Stafford and Williams being locks, and then it is a case of picking your favorite between Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp. Both could blow up, but you at least know one of them should most weeks.

The Giants put up a good fight against the Eagles last week. Saquon Barkley figures to be the focal point of the offense, so I am very happy plugging him in. Tyrod Taylor moved the ball nicely, but no receivers are really separating themselves from the pack. The Rams are better attacked through the air, so my votes would go for Darius Slayton, who you will be hoping catches another long touchdown, and Darren Waller. It is a bit of a lottery as to who gets the targets though, so proceed with caution. Taylor is extremely cheap this week for a starting QB, and he has some rushing upside, so he’ll be a solid option for starting lineups. He price and talent (maybe not the right word for it) make him one of the rare QBs that can be started without a stacking partner.

Arizona Cardinals @ Philadelphia Eagles

Location: Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia

Time: Sunday 1 p.m. ET

Money Line: Cardinals (+450) ; Eagles (-600)

Spread: Philadelphia Eagles -10.5

Total: 48.5

This one could actually be quite fun, but it will be dependent on Kyler Murray being healthy and playing. He has missed practice this week with illness. You hope that he plays, because this Eagles secondary can be roasted, and Kyler has the ability to throw deep. If he plays, I don’t mind trying my luck with Michael Wilson as a dirt cheap $3,500 lottery pick. The Eagles’ secondary is getting burned, and now is the time of the year to give the rookies some run.

James Conner has been very reliable over the last few weeks. He has to face the Eagles’ second-best run defense this weekend though, which makes the decision a bit harder. I am still happy to recommend him, seeing as he is such a good player in the receiving game. I think Arizona can put up points this weekend, but only if Kyler plays.

Trey McBride is of course a very good option. He’s a true alpha!

For Philadelphia, this feels like a week where they can finally let their hair down and have some fun. It has been a stressful month for fans, but Arizona is one of the worst defenses in the league. They are dead last on a rushing yards conceded per game basis, so D’Andre Swift and Jalen Hurts should run for fun. I also like Kenneth Gainwell as a lottery pick.

Dallas Goedert looks like a good option at tight end, and then it is another case of picking your favorite receiver between DeVonta Smith and AJ Brown. Smith comes in at $7,300, which is way cheaper than Brown at $8,600. Brown will get more targets, but Smith is also super explosive and got the touchdown last week.

New Orleans Saints @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Location: Raymond James Stadium, Tampa, Florida

Time: Sunday 1 p.m. ET

Money Line: Saints (+135) ; Buccaneers (-155)

Spread: Tampa Bay Buccaneers -3

Total: 41.5

Baker Mayfield and the crew are enjoying a fantastic season, and you can look their way again this week, despite it being a tough matchup. Rachaad White has proven to be unstoppable this year and is currently ranked as the third-highest-scoring running back in PPR. He is a top option every week, with his usage as a receiver turning any matchup into a good one.

Both primary receivers in Tampa are good options this week. Mike Evans has previously had tough games against Marshon Lattimore, but with the star cornerback set to miss this game, Evans is very much in play. Godwin has been the one getting more work in recent weeks though, so I am very happy to look his way at a discount.

For New Orleans, you have to love Chris Olave this week. He turned 13 targets into 9 catches for 123 yards last week and now gets to go up against a Buccaneers secondary that is dead last when it comes to passing yards conceded per game. Olave is in a smash spot this week. For the same reason, I also love Rashid Shaheed who tied his season high of 9 targets last week. It looks like they are trying to involve him more, and his deep-threat ability could pay off big time this week!

Alvin Kamara was quiet last week, but he had been dominating prior to that game. He remains an option this week, in what could be a surprisingly high-scoring affair.

San Francisco 49ers @ Washington Commanders

Location: FedExField, Landover, Maryland

Time: Sunday 1 p.m. ET

Money Line: 49ers (-800) ; Commanders (+550)

Spread: San Francisco 49ers -13

Total: 49.5

The 49ers need to bounce back, and they have the perfect opponents to do that. The Commanders have been a dismal defense ever since trading away their two star edge rushers, Sweat and Young. No team is giving up more yards per game, so the 49ers are set to smash.

Brock Purdy can absolutely come back into our lineups this week, with Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk and George Kittle all in amazing spots. It’s really just a case of picking your favorites because any of them could go huge. I lean to Deebo and Kittle here, but McCaffrey probably has the best matchup of all them. In a week that doesn’t have White and Edwards-Helaire as cheap RB chalk, CMC probably soaks up a lot more ownership. His pricetag is absurd, but probably worth it at reduced ownership. That makes him a pretty smart starting point.

For Washington, Jacoby Brissett is coming in to pilot the offense. I think you are better off avoiding any Washington stacks, but the 49ers’ defense has proven to be beatable. Brissett looked Terry McLaurin’s way when he came in a couple of weeks ago against the Rams, so it is him that I will be plugging into my 49er stack. I would stay away from the running backs though.

Carolina Panthers @ Jacksonville Jaguars

Location: TIAA Bank Field, Jacksonville, Florida

Time: Sunday 1 p.m. ET

Money Line: Panthers (+240) ; Jaguars (-300)

Spread: Jacksonville Jaguars -6.5

Total: 37.5

The Jaguars have been crumbling in recent weeks, so a matchup with the Panthers has come at the perfect time. It is, however, not a matchup that is as good as you would think for our fantasy stars. The Panthers are giving up the third-fewest passing yards per game, which makes Calvin Ridley a tricky one to figure out this week. I will be leaving him out, and instead focusing on Travis Etienne and Evan Engram. Note, that CJ Beathard is expected to start.

Travis Etienne let us all down last week, as the Jags were hammered by Tampa Bay. But he now goes up against a Carolina team that is giving up the third most fantasy points to running backs. I like him to drive the offense this week.

Evan Engram has a tough matchup on paper, as the Panthers are giving up the 5th fewest points to the tight end position, but I will still be trusting him in DFS. He has become a very prominent part of the offense thanks to injuries to Christian Kirk and Zay Jones.

Jacksonville’s defense has been declining as the season has progressed, but they are still stout against the run. I would be wary of Chuba Hubbard this week, who only got home last week thanks to a touchdown. Adam Thielen is your best bet if you want to play a Panther. He has continued to see targets, and the Jaguars are giving up the 8th most points to the receiver position.

Location: M&T Bank Stadium, Baltimore

Time: Sunday 1 p.m. ET

Money Line: Dolphins (+145) ; Ravens (-170)

Spread: Baltimore Ravens -3.5

Total: 47.5

The big game of week 17! Two stout defenses against two of the NFL’s most exciting offenses, both coming off massive wins. I expect this game to be a back-and-forth affair, with all of the main protagonists in play.

Tyreek Hill is the best option on the day. He is unstoppable and could see even more targets with Jaylen Waddle now injured. Mostert remains the best option in the backfield, but we could see Achane get more involved as a receiver to help with the loss of Waddle. I would lean towards Mostert, who you know will get the looks in the red zone.

Lamar Jackson and company lit up the 49ers last week, so I like him, Zay Flowers and Isaiah Likely to go well again this week. Odell Beckham has been forgotten about in recent weeks, with only 6 targets across his last two games. He is still a talented player and a useful weapon to be able to call upon though, so he’s not a bad option as a cheap lottery pick.

I am not so keen on Gus Edwards though. He had only 9 carries and 1 target last week, and I think he could be a bit forgotten about in this game, which I expect to be dominated by the aerial attacks.

Tennessee Titans @ Houston Texans

Location: NRG Stadium, Houston

Time: Sunday 1 p.m. ET

Money Line: Titans (+180) ; Texans (-215)

Spread: Houston Texans -4.5

Total: 42.5

CJ Stroud returns, which is excellent news for Texans fans and our Houston fantasy stars. Particularly, with the Tennessee Titans on deck. Tennessee is a bottom-10 defense against wide receivers in fantasy, which means we could see another big game from Nico Collins. I will be firing him up with confidence this week.

Stroud’s return also brings Noah Brown into play, who has flashed in games where Tank Dell or Nico Collins have missed. With Dell out for the season and Stroud back at the helm, Brown is a decent option at just $5,100 on DraftKings.

Tennessee is not the vaunted run defense that they used to be, so Singletary at $5,600 looks like a good value. He has been the main man in the Texans backfield and is also aided by the return of Stroud.

On the Tennessee side, Ryan Tannehill operated the offense well last week. Derrick Henry is the main outlet for production, but he had a historically bad day against Houston just a couple of weeks ago. I think you have to give him another shot though. This is normally a matchup he does well in.

I like Chigoziem Okonkwo as the receiving option in Tennessee. He has been getting more involved recently, seeing 6 targets for 63 yards and a score last week. Deandre Hopkins only got two catches from Tannehill though, so I will be leaving him out.

Time: Sunday 4:05 p.m. ET

Money Line: Steelers (+150) ; Seahawks (-175)

Spread: Seattle Seahawks -3.5

It took them a while to get going last week, but Geno Smith and his pass catchers eventually delivered. Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf both had good games, and I would be happy rolling them out there again this week.

The Steelers are a bottom-10 defense against running backs, which also makes Kenneth Walker an option. He struggled last week against Tennessee but showed how good he is by scoring 20 fantasy points against the Eagles the week before. Stacking him with Geno and Metcalf could be a good option, however, they burnt us last week…

For Pittsburgh, who knows what to think. Has Mason Rudolph transformed the offense, or was it just a one-game fluke? Chucking George Pickens out there again makes sense, but I think I will avoid the rest of the pass catchers.

Seattle is giving up the 6th most points to running backs, so there are fantasy points to be had. It is difficult to know who gets them though between Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren. The edge goes to Harris for me.

Time: Sunday 4:25 p.m. ET

Money Line: Chargers (+165) ; Broncos (-195)

Spread: Denver Broncos -3.5

Total: 37.5 (Opened: 38.5)

The Broncos are moving Russell Wilson to the bench and proceeding with Jarrett Stidham. Whilst Broncos fans might be happy, this move does not help us from a DFS perspective. Wilson was at least helping the likes of Courtland Sutton and Javonte Williams to some big games.

The Chargers are a great matchup for offenses, but I won’t be rolling the dice on the Broncos’ pass attack. Javonte Williams could see more work now, so he will be the only Denver Bronco I recommend. You might take a shot on Jeudy with Sutton out though and the chance of some more targets.

There is not much to be excited about on the Chargers side either, with Keenan Allen likely to miss again. Easton Stick moved the ball okay against the Bills, but nobody really stood out in the box score. Denver is giving up the second most rushing yards per game, so Austin Ekeler looks like your best bet. Aside from him, I would be looking the way of Gerald Everett. Denver is dead last against tight ends in fantasy, so fire him up!

Location: GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City, Missouri

Time: Sunday 4:25 p.m. ET

Money Line: Bengals (+270) ; Chiefs (-340)

Spread: Kansas City Chiefs -7

Total: 44.5 (Opened: 45.5)

This game doesn’t quite have the prestige we hoped it would when we saw the fixture list at the beginning of the year, but it should still be fun. Jamar Chase should return to the lineup this week, but that doesn’t scare me off Tee Higgins, who has been brilliant over the last few weeks. La’Jarius Sneed has been very effective when shadowing the opposition’s number-one receiver, so Higgins remains in a good spot in my opinion.

Mixon had a down week last week but had gone over 15 fantasy points in his last three before then. I am happy to go back to him again this week, with Chase Brown offering an explosive option as a bargain lottery pick.

The Travis Kelce we are seeing at the moment is not the one we are used to seeing, but he gets a dreamy matchup this week. The Bengals are giving up the second most points to tight ends in fantasy, so I will stick with the star tight end.

The Bengals have been giving up plenty of yards through the air and were scorched by Mason Rudolph and George Pickens last week. I will, therefore, be looking for Rashee Rice, who has proven to be a useful outlet in this struggling Kansas City offense.

Finally, it is a good matchup for the Kansas running backs, but they all seem to be injured. Clyde Edwards-Helaire seems the most likely to play, and I am very happy to roll him out if he does. If he joins the others on the bench, I won’t be risking it with whoever comes in as the fourth-stringer.

The Lineup Build

We have a very busy slate of games to pick from, and it is the 49ers who look the best to me. They will be chalky, but I could see them dropping 40+ on the Commanders.

I am also keen to run it back with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who earned us some good points last week. Their bad secondary tends to create high-scoring games, and I love Olave and Shaheed going in the other direction.

Finally, I will be looking the way of the Rams, who have one of the most exciting offenses in the league, going up against the Giants.

With 13-games a ton of options this week. Don’t go crazy with your bankroll as we’re going be subject to variance even more this week, with unexpected players showing up with big games.

FD

The Bucs are the focus on FanDuel. Baker Mayfield and Rachaad White are on fire, and I will be opting for the cheaper options at wide receiver, with both Chris Godwin and Rashid Shaheed offering almost as much upside in my opinion.

Going for the cheaper options there allows me to pick up my favorite individual options, in Travis Etienne and Travis Kelce. George Pickens is back in after his monster week last week, with Michael Wilson filling the flex spot as a cheap lottery pick.

Finally, the Broncos are the defense of choice, going up against Easton Stick and the Chargers.

I’ll also be playing around with some 49ers stacks here starting with Purdy + Deebo + Kittle. And then trying to squeeze in some CMC + Kelce lineups as a starting point.

DK

I’m going a little more studs and duds here focusing on high-end WRs and the two chalk RBs in White and Edwards-Helaire. If I start with Tyrod Taylor, who is dirt cheap, I can try to squeeze in Deebo, Kupp, and Collins. Need to play around with defense and some cheap players to fill this one out. Taylor and Kupp make a mini-stack. Can play around with Henry or Hopkins on other side of Collins, or even drop down to Brown.

Can also start with the Rams with Matthew Stafford, Kyren Williams and Puka Nacua backed to go big again, Wan’Dale Robinson offering up a cheap option to represent the opposition, but no need to force a Giants player in. Instead may also take the Rams’ defense in this lineup.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire fills the second running back slot, with Tee Higgins taking the final wide receiver slot. Those two could be in for good games in their Sunday evening clash.

I love Gerald Everett at tight end, and am taking Demario Douglas as my cheap flex option. He should see a lot of volume if the Patriots fall behind against the Bills.

Yahoo

The 49ers are an expensive bunch, with CMC costing more than any other player in DFS this week. Brock Purdy, Brandon Aiyuk and Terry McLaurin come in to join him.

We need to go bargain-hunting for the remaining RB and WR slots, and thankfully there are some nice options. Gainwell has some sneaky upside against Arizona, and Slayton offers upside against the Rams’ poor secondary.

Chigoziem Okonkwo is a fantastic value option at tight end against Houston, and the Raiders are a cheap defense option, despite scoring 20+ fantasy points in each of their last two games. That leaves enough for us to plug Bijan Robinson in at the flex.
